Details for 2025

The below lists confirmed layouts, charities, demonstrators/educational, and traders at our upcoming show in November 2020, which is correct as at time of writing. However, it should be noted that this list is subject to change (hopefully not too much now) before the show without notice. Feel free to check back here regularly for any updates.

Layouts

  • Bovington Junction – N Gauge (R&D MRC/Ben Atherton)
    • Set during WW2, Bovington Junction is a fictional station inspired by Bovington and the Royal Tank Regiment. Apart from tank movements the station is also regularly used for passenger and freight traffic. The layout features moving vehicles and a spitfire that actually takes off! All the locomotives are DCC with many sounds fitted.
  • Chalfont – Gauge 3 (Roger Salisbury)
    • Chalfont represents a fictitious Great Western branch line terminus set in the Buckinghamshire countryside of the 1930s to 1940s. The line is lightly used, with passenger services being handled by steam-hauled autocoach or diesel railcar. Freight traffic mainly serves the local dairy together with local coal and general produce requirements.
  • Lego Layout – Newbury Model Railway Club (TBC)
    • The ever-popular Lego layout, owned and run by our club member Adrian King, attracts more parents than children who are playing on the newly built, but not scenic, children’s layout. This layout can be found in the Children’s Room (accessed via the Atrium).
  • Liverpool To Manchester: Edge Hill – OO Gauge (Robin Gilchrist)
    • Based on the Edge Hill cuttings and tunnels which formed part of the early Liverpool to Manchester line in the late 1870’s to 1900 era. The layout depicts the cuttings and tunnel entrances with 4 lines and the original rope wagon haulage system. Original locomotives on display include the Rocket, Lion and Tiger hauling freight and passenger traffic.
  • Ludlow – N Gauge (Ian Coules)
    • This layout is based on Ludlow in Shropshire (on the Shrewsbury to Hereford line). Set in the late 50’s early 60’s it depicts both the sidings and the main lines but also incorporates the quarry line from Clee Hill.
  • Mamhead – O Gauge (Jim Edwards)
    • Inspired by the real village of Mamhead in Devon (located south of Exeter). This village has never been directly served by rail. This fictional portrayal is set in the 1930s sees the line handle passenger and freight trains to support small local industry and convey perishable produce.
  • Meldon West – N Gauge (Tom Blount)
    • A fictional quarry layout, predominately modelled during the transition from BR Blue to BR Sectorisation in the 1980’s.  This is a ‘might-have-been’ small extension to the west of Meldon Quarry in Devon.
  • Minories – 4EM Gauge (Tom Cunnigton)
    • Set in the 1970s, this British Rail Eastern Region layout portrays a fictional extension of the City Widened lines from Moorgate to a small terminus in the heart of the City of London.
  • Much Murkle – OO Gauge (Nick Wood)
    • Set in the 1930s this fictitious location is portrayed to be in Herefordshire. The line is used by passenger and freight trains with the latter supporting quarrying and other local industry.
  • Mynydd y Ddraig – OO9 Gauge (Alan Monk)
    • Meaning ‘Dragon Mountain’ in English. This layout is set in the 1970s and is based on Devil’s Bridge which was the upper terminus of the Vale of Rheidol Narrow Gauge railway. This was the last steam operated railway under British Railways.
  • Penmawr – OO Gauge (Chris Thomas)
    • GWR engine shed layout set in the 1930s. Featuring a variety of quintessential GWR steam locomotives and motive power, some of which had seen considerable working lives even prior to the depiction of this layout.
  • Sheepcroft – 4EM Gauge (Stu Davies)
    • Depicts a shunting operation on a freight only line in the south-west based very loosely on a real location. Set somewhen in the late 1960s to early 1970s.
  • Sproston Green TMD – OO Gauge (Tim Farmer)
    • Sproston Green TMD is a representation of a medium sized diesel depot as it would have been in the 1970s to early 1980s. Inspired by Crewe Diesel and Gateshead Depots back in the day.
  • Stonethwaite & Bainrigg – 7mm Narrow Gauge (Richard Mawer)
    • Returns for 2025 on a rather larger scale! Set in the 1930s, this 0-16.5 7mm narrow-gauge layout has been built with realism and entertainment in mind. Look for features including moving water columns, working cranes, opening doors… rather too much to list here!
  • Trebach – OO9 Gauge (Gordon Sutton)
    • Based on a fictitious location in North Wales. Trebach is a small hamlet. The layout depicts an otherwise redundant engine shed, some rolling stock and Trebach Station post-preservation.

Charities

  • Great Western Society (Didcot Railway Centre)
    • The local heritage railway centre at Didcot, which also contains the Swindon Panel signalling simulator. A new addition will be a shunting layout, so try your skill.
  • Lynton and Barnstable
    • Rebuilding the Lynton and Barnstable railway in North Devon, the members in attendance will keep you up to date with developments there.
  • Pendon Museum
    • The epitome of fine modelling their portrayal of a village in the Vale of White Horse is on display near Didcot. Modelling at its very finest.
